Discuss what you think about Dumbledore and Grindlewald.
Well its an interesting pairing, I will say that. Sort of odd, though. I guess thats why she put him in Dumbledore’s past- its unexpected. Dumbledore was just sort of swept up in what he saw as the glamour in Grindlewald’s ideas; he was young, he wanted to escape the tragedy around him and find himself, make something of himself. Grindlewald provided him a friend who was in a sense “equal” to Dumbledore’s capabilities like no one else. Dumbledore needed a friend, and a place to escape to, which Grindlewald could make.
Do you think there’s another reason, a ‘real’ reason as to why Lupin didn’t want to be with Tonks? Were you on Harry’s side when he stepped out of place to get Lupin to go back to his family? Why or why not?
I think the reason is similar to why Harry broke up with Ginny. But Lupin and Tonks were much more close because they had a son to take care of, and he would need a father. Harry is a family man, and believes strongly in family, because he never had a stable one himself. So I can understand why Harry told Lupin to go back. Lupin was probably scared, like any new parent, plus the added fear of being killed at any moment- so thats probably why he left. He probably thought his son/wife would be safer as well. And he felt guilty, passing on his werewolf traits. But I agree with Harry- Lupin needed to stay with Tonks, help her through it (because she is experiencing the same fears) and stick together. Together they are happier, there’s more love, and they are stronger- just like when Harry and Ginny kiss in the end.
Do you think Harry was too quick to condemn Dumbledore’s past? Was it because he didn’t know much so the little he knew made sense?
I think so. He just knew what he heard from one source, not from multiple, reliable sources. I’m sure it was frustrating to realize how little he knew and how he couldn’t get answers anymore. He just accepted what he heard from Rita Skeeter because thats all that was there. He really didn’t know Dumbledore’s personal life, so the pieces from Skeeter made sense. Harry did know Dumbledore’s personality, and if he thought logically, he would have realized a lot of the stuff Skeeter wrote didn’t make sense with his professor’s demeanor. But then again, Dumbledore was always a mysterious figure who knew a lot about others- whenever he was with Harry, the subject was usually Harry.
